Greetings From Ecuador!

Hi Everybody,

Giselle and I have settled into our apartment in Cotacachi, Ecuador and are starting to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere, except for the leaf blowing gardener that starts up at approximately 5:00AM every morning in the park across the street from us. The weather is beautiful, temps in the low 20’s during the day. It usually starts out sunny every morning then the clouds slowly roll in and by 5:00PM we might get a thunder storm. It has rained hard every night since arriving on Sunday, but never during the day.

The entire country is on a 5 day vacation/holiday celebrating first Halloween, then on the 2nd, the Day of the Dead. Today they are celebrating the independence of Cuenca, a major city in the south of the country. Things should get back to normal tomorrow.

Anyway, here is what is coming up for the members back home:

  • Thursday Nov 4th 7:00PM ZOOM call. We will be online possibly with special guest Wilson Bernardo Tituana, our close friend and guide from Ecuador.
  • Thursday Nov 11 – Remembrance Day Ride (rain or shine). Patrick is organizing this ride, as usual. Meet at the White Spot Restaurant on East Hastings and Kensington in Burnaby, at 9:00AM for breakfast, then a ride out to Belcarra Park to observe the Power Squadron Ceremony. If you have never attended, this is a very unique ceremony performed on the wharf at Belcarra Park.
  • Saturday November 20th – Chapter Breakfast – 9:00AM – yes, SATURDAY, not Sunday. 9:00AM, not 7:30. ABC Restaurant on Schoolhouse Rd in Coquitlam. This change was made to better accommodate several members and the restaurant. This will be the last breakfast meeting until January. If you have a better suggestion for location and time, please send it in. It is very difficult to find a suitable location that fits for everybody.
  • Saturday December 4th – Chapter Christmas Dinner – To be held at the Maharani Sweets Restaurant, 9320 – 120 St (Scott Road), Surrey. We aren’t quite at 40 members registered yet. The menu has been set, you received an email last week with all the details. Here is the link to register:

Dan has asked me to remind you all he is collecting donations for the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau. As you know, the annual Vancouver Toy Run has been cancelled once again. Dan and Val have contributed to this organization for many years. You can email him a cash donation at or bring in a donation to the Chapter Breakfast on the 20th.

As always, ride safe!

Dave and Giselle
